INFORMATION FOR APPLICANT

| Brief Description of Assignment |
: |
Key functions of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Specialist will include but not limited to:
• Recommendation on activities that may pose threats to workers health or safety.
• Investigate any accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future
• Recommend measures to help protect workers from potentially hazardous work methods, processes, or materials.
• Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and government regulations.
• Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect workers health, comfort, or performance.
• Conduct safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
• Test facilities for environmental hazards.
• Collaborate with engineers or physicians to institute control or remedial measures for hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions or equipment.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to plan or provide treatment.
• Develop or maintain medical monitoring programs for workers.
• Maintain or update emergency response plans or procedures.
• Coordinate and overview of the OHS related activities in all the components of the project
• Develop procedures in case of emergency situation.
• Inspect specified areas to ensure the presence of fire prevention equipment, safety equipment, or first-aid supplies.
• Prepare hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste samples for transportation or storage by treating, compacting, packaging, and labeling them.
• Any other task assigned by the project director. |
| Experience, Resources and Delivery Capacity Required |
: |
Educational Qualification: Bachelors degree in Occupational Health and Safety/ Biological Science /Healthcare or related fields. Higher degree is preferable.
Work Experience:
• 15 years of working experience of which 10 years should substantially be related to Occupational Health & Safety and Healthcare related services.
• Work experience with Government/Development Partner funded projects and other relevant institutions will be an added advantage.
• Being able to work with multiple tasks of different background and be a good team member, strong interpersonal and should have good communication skills, commitment to team work and to work across disciplines.

Contract Duration: The duration of the service is 288 (Two Hundred Eighty-Eight) working days over a period of 24 (Twenty-Four) months intermittently (Average 12 (Twelve) working days per month) from the date of signing the contract. Possibility of extension of the service is subjected to DPP provision and satisfactory performance.
Remuneration: Negotiable (Vat and Tax will be deducted as per govt. rules and regulations)
