Title : ‘Banks play vital role in e-GP’

Banks are important partners in the conduct of electronic government procurement and they play a vital role in making the e-GP system a success. Director General of CPTU and Additional Secretary Md Faruque Hossain made such observations during a programme on the occasion of renewal of MoU with NRB Commercial Bank Ltd at CPTU Conference Room on 16 July 2018.   

Managing Director and CEO of NRBC Bank Rashed Maksud, other officials from his side and CPTU officials were present on the occasion. The DG, CPTU and the NRBC Bank CEO signed the renewal of MoU and then exchanged documents. Senior System Analyst of CPTU Md Mosharraf Hussain moderated the programme.

The DG, CPTU mentioned that a total of 45 banks had signed separate MoUs with CPTU to facilitate payments in e-GP system. The banks receive registration fees, registration renewal fees, tender document fees from tenderers registered with the e-GP system. They also provide tender security and performance guarantee on behalf of the tenderers.

About seven thousand branches of such banks have been providing services to tenderers across country, he said, adding the volume of public procurement is increasing every year since the government has put more thrust on development activities. The banks are also doing business through e-GP operation. The DG, CPTU requested all banks to promote e-GP as part of their business agenda.  

Rashed Maksud expressed his satisfaction with his bank’s involvement in e-GP system. He assured all of providing the best possible services to clients in this connection.

The CEO said, “Our policy is to get involved in all transactions of the government. We are going to have our service centres in all upazilla of the country.”

He also said that data is a very important factor in expanding business and providing services. The NRBC will collect all necessary data required for providing e-GP services to tenderers and improve upon the existing set-up.

At the conclusion, the e-GP theme song with its essence of being “simple secure and speedy” was played and all present in the meeting enjoyed it.  The theme song is written by Faruque Hossain and sung by popular youngster singer Mahdi.
